A quick summer update from Climate Courage Schools

A quick hello before I melt in 40° France…

Before I head off for a couple of weeks of reading, swimming, hiding from the boiling sunshine, and hopefully still finding some time in nature, I wanted to share where we’re at – and what’s coming this autumn.

Since launching the Climate Courage Schools campaign in June, we’ve been laying the groundwork for what’s next: developing a powerful short film, planning a drive to gather hundreds of real-life stories from classrooms, and growing the networks we’ll need to get our four calls on the government’s radar.

Volunteer with us

Now the campaign’s up and running, we’ve already welcomed some amazing new volunteers to help us deliver this autumn's push. We’re so excited to have them on board – and there are still a few roles left if you’d like to join them.

We’re looking for people to take on specific projects – from story-gatherers to web developers and social media support. All roles are flexible, collaborative, and open to most levels of experience. We’re especially keen to hear from teachers and young people who could act as advisors.

What’s coming this autumn

  • Campaign film. Filming in September, launch later in the autumn
  • Testimonials drive. Building a library of voices from across the country demonstrating the need for change and showing how good, psychogically-informed climate education is done.
  • Growing awareness and mobilisation. Connecting with more schools, parents, and partners so that our calls become impossible to ignore.

Other ways to help right now

  • Connect us. Know a teacher, head, union rep, mental health group, or education network we should talk to? Please link us up.
  • Spotlight good practice. Tell us about schools or projects already doing this work.
  • Pitch an idea. Got a thought for how we could reach more people? Let us know.

What we're reading

  • 💚 Nature connection has declined 60% in 200 years. A new study from Prof Miles Richardson (University of Derby) shows just how far we’ve drifted from nature – and how early intervention is key to reversing that decline. The research makes it clear that we need daily, meaningful contact with nature woven into childhood, family life and school culture. Read here →
  • 🎧 Future Learning Podcast: Outgrowing Modernity. To mark the release of Vanessa Machado de Oliveira Andreotti’s new book Outgrowing Modernity, this episode of the brilliant Future Learning Podcast explores the “inner work” and community practice needed to meet complex times – with Vanessa, her daughter Giovanna de Oliveira Andreotti, and Manda Scott. A rich companion to our focus on emotional literacy and connection in education. Listen here →
  • 🚨 Our sister campaign SAFER has launched – Strategic Adaptation for Emergency Resilience is calling for a proper National Climate Resilience Plan and for communities to take action now to protect themselves from growing climate chaos – as many already are. From restoring natural flood defences to growing food locally, adaptation done right can safeguard people, restore nature, cut emissions, and bring communities together. Find out more →

PS. This one's a little tangential to schools – but highly relevant if you’re trying to create change. I’ve helped co‑create this open‑source toolkit with an amazing group of people from the University of Exeter and beyond, turning tipping‑points science into practical tools for campaigns, community projects and organisations. Sound interesting? Register for the launch →

Till next time!
